Restoring the World’s Forgotten Natural History
For more than a century, fragments of forgotten natural history have quietly resurfaced from abandoned collections, expedition journals and neglected archives. Among these remarkable discoveries are extraordinary accounts of species, botanical phenomena and expeditions that seem to have vanished from scientific history.
The Y.A.C.K. Institute exists to identify, restore and preserve these overlooked records, presenting them as faithfully as possible through carefully reconstructed illustrations, historical documentation and scholarly commentary.
Every restoration is approached with the methods and discipline of nineteenth-century natural history, preserving not only the illustrations themselves but also the spirit of observation, exploration and scientific curiosity that originally inspired them.
Visitors are invited to explore the archive as restoration work continues, with new discoveries returning to the light on a regular basis.

The Institute encourages observation, curiosity and critical thinking through the study of restored natural history archives.
Each restoration combines authentic nineteenth-century scientific practice with carefully reconstructed fictional discoveries, offering opportunities to explore biology, botany, geography, history, illustration and source criticism.
Educational access provides teachers and institutions with additional learning resources, discussion materials and classroom activities developed around the archive.
Although every archive presented by the Institute is fictional, each restoration is grounded in authentic nineteenth-century scientific methods, historical illustration techniques and genuine natural history.
